Offices

GridDuck measures and automates hundreds of appliances in businesses, including in offices. Contact us to learn more.

Why Energy Matters

Energy waste in offices is a big issue. In fact, one report suggests that a few thousand offices across five UK cities alone could be costing £60 million in wasted energy per year.

In 2022, we’ve already seen energy prices rise significantly. Surging wholesale gas and electricity prices are likely to create significant increases for businesses, especially as several business contracts will come to an end in April, June and October 2022. New rates are likely to reflect growing wholesale prices, making office energy waste an even more costly problem.

Tracking your electricity costs

Do you know how much you are spending on energy? Do you know what you are spending it on, and when?

GridDuck can track your electricity consumption in real time, for your whole building, or for individual appliances. We can also take in external data feeds to our dashboard, for example from your gas or water measurements.

Example

Compare the two offices shown here. One has much of their equipment switched on all day, including on weekends. The second office adjusts their energy spend to their opening hours (which include Saturday).

You can download your data and compare it to your energy bill and business activity.

Savings opportunities in offices

In many offices computers and servers (ICT) consume over one third of total electricity.

Heating and cooling together account for 20%, Lighting for 16

Save costs automatically, every day

Are you switching off unused computers overnight and at the weekend? Is it critical for them to be on?

Heating and cooling: Are you heating or cooling your office only during working hours?

How do you manage your lights? Are they on when the sun shines outside? Do you leave them on at night?

We have put our office electric heater on a simple time routine, from 5am (early risers) to 6pm.

National Highways Case Study

National Highways, formerly known as Highways England, is a government-run organisation tasked with developing, managing and maintaining the UK’s strategic road network (SRN), which is made up of motorways and major roads.

The organisation enlisted GridDuck to help identify energy saving opportunities in their operations, gain more granular data for sustainability reporting and divide costs amongst different building occupants. Using our system, the business was able to achieve this goals.

An Office Testimonial

“GridDuck is a reliable system, it provides us with the additional granularity of our electricity consumption data in our office space and we need that for our carbon reporting, but also to be able to identify improvement opportunities in our operations. GridDuck is maintenance free and means we don’t have to go anywhere to take readings; everything is in one place. We recently moved and made a point of ensuring GridDuck was installed as part of the fit-out”

Kevin Denney, Strategy Manager at Highways England
